About Me

I'm a UX/UI designer who both enjoys solving problems and creating beautiful design. I care about making digital experiences clear, usable, and accessible.

Lizzie Andersson, UX Designer

From events to UX design

I previously worked in a role where I was part of a team that organized events for students and education sector partners. I handled overseas communication and partner engagement. The work taught me how to plan well, how to work with many kinds of people, and how to build experiences that feel welcoming and clear. Confusion on event day made for a bad event, whether big or small. Clarity was important. That is a guiding principle for me as a designer. I want to create experiences that are clear and welcoming, and that make people feel good.

Design, code & accessibility

In my drive for clarity, I have learnt more about accessibility. It is something I enjoy learning about, and I've worked to incorporate it into both the interface and the code behind it. On the design side, that often means checking contrasts and readability. You can see examples of this in my work with Spring Learning and Bentoya Cooking.

Understanding code has deepened my understanding of accessibility. One of my first insights into this happened when I was attempting to create a hamburger menu without Javascript. The research into this was a bit of a rabbit hole, but it was fascinating to see different approaches and learn about accessibility considerations. Since then I have continued to learn about accessibility, both in design and code.

To me clarity also means structure. My design process is often a bit messy, but nothing beats a good design system to lean back on. Structure creates clarity and makes things easier for everyone—designers, engineers, and users.

Beyond work

I'm based in Helsinki and speak English and Swedish, with ongoing practice in Japanese.

Penguins and volcanoes are two things that interest me. These have nothing to do with design, but make life more fun. I also practice chin-ups at the outdoor gym. The count is now at two. I'm working on improving that, but the real goal is a pull-up.
